Behind the Final #PBCHOOPS Top 5 2/11/18 and 2017-18 Boys District Championship Schedules, Previews & Predictions **Updated Scores 2/14/18 Games**

Today's Updated District Playoff Game Schedule

The regular season wrapped up with a very solid group of teams in the Top 5. Dwyer, Wellington, Lake Worth, Forest Hill and Palm Beach Lakes by all accounts are playing the best basketball in the county at the moment. Saturday nights #PBCHOOPS Game of the Night between Lakes and Atlantic was a great close to a regular season that saw area teams seek out the best programs in the state. Win or lose the competition has better prepared the top teams for a tough road to the state championships in their respective classes.

District Playoff Preview

Teams getting to 100% just in time for the playoffs is a reoccurring story this post season. The injury bug has hit quite a few teams and altered what could have been memorable regular season runs. Instead the expectation has shifted to a solid showing in the tournament, as players and teams get back to full strength, trying to secure a state championship..#PBCHOOPS teams in each class have solid opportunities with the most advantages being in classes 8A and 9A. Yet before any team can claim a state title they must first navigate their district. Here's our look on what to expect:

Year in year out one of the most competitive districts in the state. This season was no different, #1 seed Lake Worth, which won over 20 games this year facing a variety of teams from across the state, suffered their only loss to district foe Atlantic. #2 seed Atlantic, which played one of the tougher schedules in the state, got to that spot playing the majority of their games at less than 100%. While seeds #3,# 4 and #5 Santaluces, Spanish River and Boca have been battling hard all year long, winning and losing mostly close games. Now district playoff time is here and the slate is wiped clean, all 6 teams have a shot at the title which will make for some tight games. The team to watch in the bracket is Spanish River, the Sharks have been competitive all year and won big games. On paper they may not look the part but on the court they have been tough all season. A win over Boca Tuesday would set up a game against a Lake Worth team they have had success against in the past. But when it's all said and done expect a rematch of last year's district championship game, Atlantic and Lake Worth with a full strength Atlantic taking home the title.

Wellington is 25-0. We'll talk more about them in the next round. Palm Beach Central has been the next best team in the district and get the winner of a surprisingly down John I team and Seminole Ridge. Look for Central to advance along with Wellington to the regional round.

Suncoast never avoids competition and this year was no different. The Chargers hit the road at every opportunity playing top teams locally and from across the state. In the end they claim the #2 seed but are well prepared to build off their regional performance last year. They split this season with #1 seed Port St Lucie but we expect Suncoast to come out on top, taking home a 6th straight district title.

Dwyer has proven all year to be the top team in the district, outside of 2 overtime games, their first game of the season against Palm Beach Lakes and the second on the road against Royal Palm in mid January, they have been dominant winning by double digits each time out including a 59-46 win over #2 seed Forest Hill to close out district play. The Panthers are focused on a state title and in order for that to happen they will need to navigate a tough district playoff. On the other side of the bracket Forest Hill and Palm Beach Lakes are on a collision course and should meet in the semi-final in a win or go home match-up to advance to the district championship game. Plenty has changed since their first meeting just after the break in January, the Falcons are 0-3 against the top 3 teams in the #PBCHOOPS Top 5 including back to back loses to #1 Dwyer and #2 Lake Worth. Lakes on the other hand is on a roll having won 8 straight since their loss to Dwyer in mid January, including big wins over a talented Suncoast team and a double OT thriller Saturday night at Atlantic. The reward for the winner is a date with Dwyer in the championship and a guaranteed spot in the regional round. Look for Dwyer capture another district title and for both teams in the title game to make a run in the regional round and beyond.

No longer just a pick 'em between Oxbridge and Newman, 11-5A has a bit of intrigue this year. Oxbridge Academy played most of the regular season without juniors AJ Cajuste and Dante Wilcox, yet they still went undefeated in district play and finished with the #1 seed. Dante Moses and Inlet Grove proved they are real contenders playing a tough non-district schedule, while #2 seed Cardinal Newman was able to right the ship after a slow start. Inlet Grove and Newman split the regular season match-ups, both teams winning at home. The Crusaders are another team that struggled with injury early and are now full strength. The key for Newman advancing to another district championship game will be slowing down Moses as they did in the second meeting at Newman. In the first meeting Moses went wild for 29 points. The winner most likely gets the Thunderwolves who will be playing at home for a chance at another district title. Look for Oxbridge to come out on top.

Village Academy and Jupiter Christian hold the top 2 seeds going into the tournament and have established themselves to be the class of the district so far. Jupiter Christian's retooled lineup has been playing well all season. Twins Gedeon and Gethro Germinal have helped lead the push while Toler Rieff, Dion Fernandez, Richie Maldanado and Clay Fitzmorris have provided balance scoring. Coach Terrence Atkinson and staff have done perhaps their best coaching job since arriving at Village Academy 3 years ago. The Tigers are without a "star" player but have managed to once again take the top spot in district while still playing an extremely tough out of district schedule. VA never runs from competition and has proven to be battle tested. We expect Jupiter Christian to come out on top in the championship game but look for both teams to have a very good shot at advancing all the way to Lakeland.

Once again Westminster Academy has cruised in district play, the expected regular season challenge from Benjamin was derailed when junior Ben Lubarsky went down with a foot injury in the middle of the season. Lubarsky is back for the Bucs and will be counted on heavily if Benjamin hopes to reach the district championship game. For that to happen they must defeat a tough John Carroll team led by senior Ashton Singleton whose averaging 16 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds for the season. The teams split during the regular season and the winner faces Westminster Academy in the championship. That's a tough task for either team therefore expect another district title for Westminster Academy.

Grandview Prep normally schedules some of the toughest competition year in, year out. This year however the Pride played it close to the vest sticking mostly to district games and similarly small schools going 17-3 on the season. Atlantic Christian, normally one to schedule tough, also kept it conservative all year. Now they are the #1 and #2 seed respectively and should meet in the district championship Saturday night for the 2nd year in a row. Last year Grandview won an overtime thriller to claim the title, this year expect a reversal and Atlantic Christian to be crowned champs.

Saint John Paul II is the best kept secret in Palm Beach County basketball. They have quietly assembled a talented group of players, with great size, skilled ball handlers, shooters and solid coaching. Well they are a secret no more, the Eagles will be a team to recon with for the next few years. They finished the season 19-3, playing a solid schedule. Their 3 losses coming to Wellington, Coral Springs and Oxbridge Academy, all by single digit. The Eagles are another team that is at full strength just in time for the playoffs, 6' 6" sophomore Jaquone Gatling is back and adds to a formidable front line which includes 6' 8" senior Kobe Opoku, 6' 4" senior David Curlee and 6' 4" sophomore Kirt Bromley. Add to that stud freshman PG Justin Roseme and slasher JJ Prien who provide great change of pace, they will be tough to beat. That being said SJPII is not a lock to win the district title, St Andrew's is the defending champ, has the talent and experience to get it done. Seniors Jammy Pierre-Louis and Marcus Pelissier have been stellar this season leading the Scots in scoring and played key roles in the past titles. As of the writing of this article Pelissier is still questionable to play and is out to due injury. North Broward Prep and Coral Springs Charter have come on strong to end the season, all together making 12-5A the most wide open it has been since Anthony Polite arrived in Boca about 4 years ago. When it's all said and done we still like St Andrew's experience to win out and take home the title.

Start copy and paste from last year's article Well that's it.. Don't be surprised if some of these predictions are wrong and also don't be surprised if there is an upset or two early. There is not a lot of separation between teams and no true dominant team this year. Anything can happen. Should be a fun week. End copy and paste from last year's article LOL
